Boss Babes We Love: Meet Lisa DuRant — The Heart-Forward Realtor Building Community One Relationship at a Time

“Meet Lisa — the woman bringing heart, connection, and community into every home she touches.”

Every quarter, we try to highlight a woman whose courage, resilience, and leadership inspire us to dream bigger. This quarter’s Boss Babe We Love is someone who rebuilt her life with intention and turned her passion for people into a thriving real estate career.

Meet Lisa DuRant, Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Florida Realty — and the epitome of serving with heart.

From Stay-At-Home Mom to Realtor with Purpose

Lisa’s story begins with reinvention. After spending over two decades as a stay-at-home mom and navigating a divorce, she felt called to reconnect with her community in a deeper way.

“Real estate made sense. It combines everything I care about: people, community, and serving.”

And with that leap, Lisa discovered a career that felt like coming home.

Q&A With Lisa DuRant

What inspired you to get into real estate?

I was a stay-at-home mom for over 2 decades, going through a divorce, and getting back into the work force. Having been too far removed from the software industry I previously worked in as a trainer, and because of my love of connecting people through my years of volunteering, real estate made sense. It combines everything I care about: people, community, and serving. I chose to take the leap and turn that passion into a career that connects me even more deeply to the communities and people I love.

What’s your favorite part of your job?

The relationships. Every transaction has a story behind it, and I never take for granted the trust people place in me during some of the biggest moments of their lives.

Any big moments that shaped your career?

I started my career as an unlicensed assistant for one of the top agents in the area. She quickly encouraged me to get licensed and was a fantastic mentor and now a dear friend. She talked me off the ledge many times early in my career, and for that, I will always be grateful, and I try to pay that forward. Also, serving on the board of my Chamber of Commerce over the last decade has really shaped how I approach real estate. It reminds me that our businesses are only as strong as our community.

How do you stay motivated in a competitive industry?

I focus on relationships, not competition. I’ve learned that consistency, integrity, and genuine care always stand out. I also set goals visually. I keep a huge whiteboard in my office and use a color-coded paper planner to track everything from transactions to personal wins. Seeing progress keeps me motivated.

Your secret to connecting with customers?

Listen first. People don’t just want a house; they want to be heard, understood, and guided. I meet them where they are. A real estate transaction is one of the most significant financial and sometimes emotional decisions a person can make. That is always at the front of my mind.

How do you balance work and life like the boss you are?

This is something I have struggled with through the years. I am much better with it than I use to be. The burn out can be real as real estate is not a 9-5 job. Utilizing my paper planner has helped me significantly. I use a different color marker for work, self-care, education, volunteering, etc. I can tell at a glance if the balance is tilting and I need to re-adjust.

What’s your go-to self-care routine?

A monthly facial, massage, and hair appointment. I spent decades happily taking care of the tiny humans in my life, and now that they are grown and taking care of their own tiny humans, I am focusing on self-care. It’s about ME in this third act of life.

Favorite local spot you can’t live without?

Downtown Mount Dora. The energy, the charm, the people. I love supporting local shops and restaurants and meeting people who are visiting, as well as running into familiar faces downtown.

One tip you’d give women starting out in business?

Don’t let fear of the unknown cripple you and wait until you feel “ready.” Make that jump. Someone I respect once told me, if you are thinking about it, you probably should have already done it! She was right.
